Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrival in Bogotá
We meet at El Dorado International Airport, transfer to the hotel, short walk, dinner, rest. Accommodation in the historic city centre: Hotel Casa de la Vega.
Bogotá Sightseeing
Funicular up to the Monserrate lookout (3,200 m above sea level), then explore the old town (La Candelaria): Gold Museum, Botero Museum, main square, cathedral, presidential palace. Lunch: ajiaco soup, exotic fruits and local specialties.
Flight to the Amazon — Leticia & Puerto Nariño
1.5-hour morning flight across the Equator to Leticia, capital of the Amazon region, at the Colombia–Peru–Brazil triple border. Sightseeing: market, ethnographic museum, typical lunch. Afternoon: 2-hour boat ride on the Amazon River to Puerto Nariño. Accommodation: Hotel Wikungo, air-conditioned rooms.
Amazonia: Dolphins, Sloths & Peru
Visiting local communities. Search for sloths in the forest. River dolphin watching (grey and pink), birdwatching, optional piranha fishing. Introduction to local gastronomy. Afternoon: trip to Peru’s Marasha Nature Reserve.
Amazonia: Jungle Tour, Monkey Island & Brazil
Jungle tour, canoeing, birdwatching, arapaima fishing. Caimans and countless water birds. Visit to the 500-year-old sacred kapok tree, short meditation. Monkey Island: meeting the titi monkey family. Return to Leticia, then a drive through Tabatinga, Brazil. 3-star air-conditioned accommodation in Leticia.
Flight to Medellín
After breakfast, we head to the airport and fly to Medellín via Bogotá. Accommodation in Laureles — voted the world’s coolest neighbourhood by Time Out in 2023. Two nights here.
Medellín Sightseeing
MetroCable ride over the hillside neighbourhoods. Comuna 13: once the world’s most dangerous neighbourhood, now a vibrant street-art destination. Botero bronze sculptures in the old city, visit to Pablo Escobar’s hideout and the site of his death in La América, market visit.
Jardín — The Heart of Coffee Country
3-hour drive through breathtaking Andean landscapes. Arrival in Jardín, the heart of the Antioquian coffee zone. Afternoon: family coffee farm visit. Evening: dinner on the main square, rum tasting, local atmosphere. Accommodation: Hotel Orillas Del Pizano.
JEEP Tour: Orchids, Hummingbirds & Waterfalls
JEEP tour up to 2,500 m into the orchid and hummingbird nature reserve. Flower admiring, hummingbird feeding, walk through cloud forest to a waterfall. Lunch in the village. Afternoon: La Escalera waterfall + coffee at the Café Jardín lookout.
Guatapé: Lakeside Stay & The Giant Rock
5-hour drive to eastern Antioquia. Guatapé (1,900 m) is one of Colombia’s most popular destinations! Lakeside accommodation with pool and jacuzzi. Afternoon: El Peñón de Guatapé — a 200-metre monolithic rock, 740 steps to the top, panoramic views.
Guatapé: Escobar’s Hacienda, Waterfall & Birdwatching
Visit the charming Guatapé village with its colourful frescoes. 1-hour speedboat tour of the reservoir: Pablo Escobar’s former Finca La Manuela hacienda. Descent to San Rafael through stunning valleys. Short hike to a waterfall, river swimming, birdwatching. Accommodation: La Posada De Las Aves.
Cocoa Tour & Flight to Cartagena
Cocoa tour: make your own chocolate at the Rendón family farm! Cacao and coffee plantations, rainforest walk. 246 registered bird species and countless butterflies. Afternoon: airport — off to the Caribbean!
Cartagena — the Caribbean Jewel
Convento de la Popa monastery (perfect panorama over city and sea). Castillo San Felipe de Barajas — the 16th-century Spanish fortress. Walled old town: Naval Museum, Palacio de la Inquisición, Catedral Santa Catalina. Evening stroll through colonial streets.
Rosario Islands — Coral Reefs & Turquoise Sea
Boat trip to the Rosario Islands (Islas del Rosario): 28 coral islands within the Corales del Rosario y San Bernardo National Park. Crystal-clear turquoise water, white sandy beaches, hundreds of fish species. Snorkelling, sunbathing, cocktails. Evening: dinner in the old town, dancing.
Farewell — Homeward Bound!
Free time in Cartagena: shopping, beach, one last coffee. Afternoon: airport transfer — and homeward bound to Europe with a big smile!
